As part of the Axmouth Church Christmas Tree Festival a small group of us gathered on Wednesday afternoon to sing some Gregorian chants for Advent.
We explained as we went along. The music is not easy to read but we did our best. Have a listen and see what you think!
Today our service was led for the first time by Lesley Gubbins, lay reader* formerly in Coventry diocese but now living here.
Hildegard read Luke 3:1-6 in which John the Baptist prepares the way and Kate spoke on it.
Sue led us in prayer and Harry played the organ.

(A lay “reader” is Church of England language for a lay minister: a person from any walk of life who is called by God, theologically trained and licensed by the Bishop to preach, teach, lead worship and assist in pastoral, evangelistic and liturgical work.)
We were delighted to welcome friends from our sister church in Uplyme for our Advent evening service.
Kate led our worship, members of both congregations gave readings and the choir included a couple of Gregorian chants.
