With the cutting of a cake iced with an amazing copy of Nigel Daniel’s design for the Parish Plan poster, and with glasses of champagne cider for the toast this was a party we could all enjoy. It was just an hour on a Saturday afternoon, but the culmination of more than a year of planning, with most of Axmouth residents completing the questionnaires on which the parish plan was based.
St Michael’s Church didn’t feature strongly in the residents’ choice of places that were central to their lives in the village; but there is a strong feeling that people do not want to lose their church building. It is important to the village, and although it is not in the centre of the village- as perhaps it once was when the river was busy with shipping trade - the church is close to the heart of many villagers.
The meeting on March 28th (7.30 pm) is open to all in the parish, and we hope then to discuss the problems of maintaining the building for the village. We might meet in the church rather that the Harbour Inn- so watch this space.
