Archdeacon’s Charge 2011

This year we come together in the Easter season with the images of Christ’s death and resurrection still very much in our heart and minds. We have looked back to the earthly life of Jesus and now we look forward to the life of the church after Ascension – the ongoing life of our church.

The Gospel passage I have selected for this visitation I hope will direct our hearts and minds to the shared task set before us as Easter people.

More Tea Vicar?

One of my favourite stories in the Bible is the story of Jesus after he has been resurrected.  Jesus appears on the beach and calls out to his mates who are fishing.  They’ve been fishing all night and they’ve not caught much at all.  Jesus shouts to them to lower their nets down on the right side of the boat and they haul in this huge net full of fish.  One of the disciples says, “It’s the Lord” and Peter, in true Peter style, jumps out of the boat and swims/wades to the shore.  Jesus is there and he has a small fire going with some bread and some fish.  He asks his friends to bring some of the fish they have caught.

Jesus invites his friends to breakfast.

I love that.
